Subgenus Metacamellia; Section Theopsis; Series Gymnandrae. A small tree, 3-6 m tall. Flowers not seen. Seed capsules solitary, 1.3 cm in diameter. Close to C. subacutissima. Leaves thinly membranous, lanceolate, 5-7.5 cm long x 1.5-2 cm wide, apices caudate. Distribution: Yunnan Province, China.

Subgenus Metacamellia; Section Eriandria. Erect, small tree, 2-7 m tall with slender branches. Flowers, white, 1-1.5 cm across with 5 petals. Leaves narrowly oblong to broadly elliptic, 5-13 cm long x 1-4 cm wide, apices caudate. Distribution: Bhutan, Assam, Burma, Vietnam, Taiwan, and the provinces of Yunnan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan and Zhejiang, China.

Subgenus Camellia; Section Camellia; Subsection Lucidissima. A shrub up to 3 m tall; buds and new growth red-brown, glabrous. Leaves obovate, sometimes narrow-elliptic, 7-11 cm long x 2-3.5 cm wide, apices obtuse, base cuneate, veins elevated, margins entire. Leaves similar to the Gordonia. Flowers bright red, sessile, terminal, cup-shaped, petals 5-6.

Subgenus Camellia; Section Camellia; Sub-section Lucidissima. Tree up to 6 m tall. Flowers, large, red, solitary, sub-terminal or axillary, 8-12 cm across with 7 petals. Close to C.japonica. Leaves coriaceous, widely-oblong to obovate-elliptic, 8-12 cm long x 2.5-5.5 cm wide, apices shortly acuminate to caudate. Distribution: Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Fijian and Hunan Provinces, China.

Camellia chrysantha (Hu) Tuyama (1965).
This species has been reduced to a synonym for Camellia nitidissima nitidissima Chang & Ye.

Subgenus Camellia; Section Pseudocamellia; Series Trichocarpae. Small tree or shrub. Flowers, terminal, axillary, white, 3-4 cm across, about 7 petals; styles 3-parted, free, protruding. Leaves thickly coriaceous, ovate-oblong or elliptic, 6-9 cm long x 2.5-4.5 cm wide. Distribution: Sichuan Province, China.

Subgenus Camellia; Section Camellia; Subsection Reticulata; Series Reticulatae.  A small tree with branchlets at first pubescent, becoming glabrous and coriaceous, ovate leaves 7-9 cm long x 3-4 cm wide, glossy dark green. Flowers reddish, 6-7 cm diameter, petals 7, obovate; stamens 2 cm long.  Seed capsule globose, 4-5 cm diameter into 4-5 valves with 10 mm thick walls.  Distribution: Sichuan Province, China.

Subgenus camellia; Section Camellia; Subsection Reticulata; Series Reticulatae. Shrub or small tree. Flowers sub-terminal, red or light red, 3.5-5.5 cm across with 8-9 petals. Leaves coriaceous, oblong or narrowly elliptic, 10-14 cm long x 4-6 cm wide. Distribution: Hunan Province, China. Related to C. phellocarpa of Eastern Hunan.

Camellia compressa var. variabilis Chang & Wen in Wen (1982).
Subgenus Camellia; Section Camellia; Subsection Reticulata; Series Reticulatae. Differs from the species by long, narrow leaves, 10-16 cm long x 3.5 cm wide, and smaller flowers. Distribution: Hunan Province, China.

Camellia confusa (Craib) Cohen-Stuart (1916).
Subgenus Camellia; Section Paracamellia. Shrub or small tree to 9 m tall. Flowers white, 3-4 cm across, with 5 petals. Close to C. oleifera to which Sealy classified it as a variety. Leaves elliptic to broad-elliptic or oblong-elliptc, 7-13.5 cm long x 2.5-6 cm wide. Distribution; Thailand, Laos, Burma, and the Chinese Provinces of Yunnan and Guangxi. Synonym: C. oleifera Abel var. confusa (Craib).

Subgenus Thea; Section Calpandra. Shrub, 3-4 m tall or a small tree, 5-9 m tall. Flowers, white, solitary, terminal or axillary, 1.1-1.3 cm across with 5 petals. Central stamen cylinder, outer filaments united, forming a fleshy tube. Distribution: Thailand. Leaves oblong, 6-9 cm long x 2.5-4 cm wide.

Subgenus Camellia; Section Furfuracea. Small tree to 8 m tall with smooth, greyish-yellow brown bark. Leaves coriaceous, narrowly-elliptic to lanceolate-elliptic, 10-14 cm long x 3-4 cm wide, apices caudate-accuminate, with 1-2.5 cm long tail, dark green. Flowers solitary, terminal, subsessile, 3-5 cm across, petals 6-8, pale yellow, ovate to broad-ovate, outer 2 ovate, thickish, shell-like; stamens numerous, 1.8-2 cm high. Seed capsule 4-5 cm in diameter. Distribution: Guangxi Province, China.

Subgenus Thea; Section Corallina. Tree 8-10 m tall. Flowers abundant, terminal or axillary in clusters, about 10 mm across, coral red with 9-10 petals. Leaves thinly leathery, oblong, 7-12 cm long x 2.5-4 cm wide. Distribution: Vietnam.

Subgenus Metacamellia; Section Eriandria. Shrub, 1-4.5 m tall, densely spreading, twigs villose. Flowers nodding, 1.4-2 cm across, white with 5-7 petals. Leaves thinly leathery, oblong-elliptic to oblong-ovate, 4-8.5 cm long x 1.3-3 cm wide. Distribution: Guangdong, Guangxi, Hunan and Jiangxi Provinces, China, and Taiwan.

Subgenus Metacamellia; Section Theopsis; Series Gymnandrae. Shrub or small tree, 1.5-7 m tall. Flowers 1-2 cm across, white or flushed with rose, with 5 petals. Species is close to C. handelii. Leaves thinly coriaceous, elliptic, 3.5-7.5 cm long x 1.1-2.6 cm wide, apices caudate. Distribution: Hubei, Guizhou, Hunan, Jiangxi, Guangxi, Guangdong, and Yunnan Provinces, China.

Subgenus Camellia; Section Furfuracea. Small tree, 5-7 m tall with smooth, brick-red bark. Flowers perulate, solitary, terminal, 6-9 cm across, white with 6-8 petals. Fruit, large, to 10 cm in diameter. Leaves obovate-elliptic to elliptic, 7.5-12 cm long x 4-5.1 cm wide. Synonym: C.gigantocarpa. The species is close to C.furfuracea. Distribution: Hong Kong, and Guangxi, Zhejiang, and Fujian Provinces, China.

Subgenus Metacamellia; Section Theopsis, Series Cuspidatae.  A small tree. Flower white, about 2 cm across with 6 petals. Leaves coriaceous, elliptic, apices caudate, 3.5-6.5 cm long x 1.5-2.2 cm wide. Distrubution: Yunnan Province, China.

Subgenus Thea; Section Brachyandra.   Small tree. Flower terminal, axillary, 2 cm across, white with 5 petals. Leaves thinly coriaceous, oblong, 5-8 cm long x 2-3 cm wide. Distribution: Yunnan Province, China.

Subgenus Camellia; Section Camellia; Subsection Lucidissima.  A shrub to small tree, 1.5-4 m tall with green, glabrous branched. Leaves moderately, thickly coriaceous, oblong to occasionally elliptic, 9-13 cm long x 3.4-6 cm wide; apices acuminate, bases wide-cuneate, both surfaces shining olive green, margins serrate on upper half; petioles 1.2-1.8 cm long. Flowers red, 1-2 terminate, sessile, 6-7 cm across; petals 7-8, obovate, 4-5.5 log. Stamens in 3-4 series, 3 cm long. Distribution:  Jiangxi Province, China.

Shrub or small tree to 5 m tall. Flowers axillary or terminal, about 2.5 cm across, purplish red with 6-7 petals. Leaves coriaceous, narrowly oblong or oblong-lanceolate, 5-8.5 cm long x 1.5-2.5 cm wide, apices caudate-acuminate. Distribution: Guangdong and Jiangxi Provinces, China.

Should be Camellia crispulata Chang (1981). Merged with and reduced to a synonym for C.crassicolumna, Chang.

Tree up to 8 m tall. Flowers 1 to 2, terminal, sessile, pink, 4-6 cm across, with 8 petals. Leaves coriaceous, oblong to oblong-lanceolate, 8-12 cm long x 3-4 cm wide, apices acuminate. Seed capsule to 4 cm in diameter. Distribution: Guangxi Province, China.

Camellia cuspidata var cuspidata (Koch.) Hort ex Bean (1912).
Subgenus Metacamellia; Section Theopsis; Series Cuspidatae. A shrub, 0.6-3 m tall. Flowers shortly pedicellate, white, 2-2.5 cm across with 6-7 petals. Leaves leathery, narrowly-elliptic to ovate-elliptic or lanceolate-elliptic, 5-9 cm long x 1.5-3 cm wide, apices caudate. Distribution: Shaanxi, Sichuan, Yunnan, Guangxi, Guangdong, Fujian and Jianxi Provinces, China.

Subgenus Metacamellia; Section Theopsis; Series Cuspidatae. Similar to the type but with the flower almost twice the size. Distribution: Hunan, Jiangxi and Sichuan Provinces, China.
