The International Camellia Register was compiled by Thomas J Savige of Australia over many years. The unique work, in two volumes, contains the name and history of every single camellia ever named in the world including those that are now extinct.
It is a mammoth work, and each volume is quite hefty, with the only pictures appearing in the foreword of Volume One.
It is only available through the International Camellia Society, and therefore you will not see it in the bookstores. If you have gone beyond general camellia gardener or exhibitor, interested in breeding camellias or you are a University/Institute teaching horticulture, then this book is a must.

The Supplement was issued in 1997 and contains all camellias registered worldwide between 1990 and 1995.
Never before has such a register been attempted on a worldwide scale in the camellia world.
Thomas J Savige passed away in December 1999, but the Register will continue to be updated with a Supplement, probably every 5 years.
This is by far the most extensive project ever untaken by the International Camellia Society, and if you are near a Library or University, look it up some time. It is truly amazing.

We hope, if you are ever in our hemisphere, you will visit Australia and one of our camellia growing regions between May and September. In the meantime, have a look at these pages to learn more about camellias in Australia.
