Leaves coriaceous, oblong, occasionally ovate-elliptic, 6.5-10 cm long x 2.5-3.5 cm wide, apices abrupt-acute, dark green, serrate. Flowers red, terminal, 3 cm in diameter; petals 5-7, joined at base. Seed capsule, 6 cm in diameter, globose. Distributed in the Sichuan Province.

Subgenus Camellia; Section Paracamellia. Small tree to 13 m tall. Leaves oblong-oblanceolate to narrow-elliptic or elliptic, apices acuminate to caudate. Flowers perulate, fragrant, 1 or 2 at the ends of shoots, axillary, petals 7-8, flower 2.5-3 cm across. Synonyms: Thea sasanqua var. kissi; Camellia brachystemon; C. iniquicarpa. Distribution: Nepal, Sikkim, Bhutan, Assam, Burma and Yunnan and Guangxi Provinces China.

Flower shortly pedicellate or sessile, 6-9 petals (a 4 petalled form exists in Malaya). Synonyms: Camellia minahasae, C.megacarpa, Calpandria lanceolata. Distribution: Malaya, Indonesia, North Borneo and the Phillipines.

Close to C.furfuracea but leaves are larger and petioles shorter. Distribution: Guangdong Province, China.
