Subgenus Protocamellia; Section Archecamellia. Similar to C.granthamiana but with more bracts. A tree up to 8 m tall. Flowers white, subterminal, solitary, sessile, 8-10 cm across, with 10 petals. Fruit to 5.5 cm diameter. Leaves coriaceous, obovate or oblong, 6.5-11 cm long x 2.5-4.5 cm wide, apices long-acuminate.  Distribution: Guangdong Province, China.

Subgenus Camellia; Section Camellia; Subsection Reticulata; Series Reticulatae.  A shrub 2 m tall with pubescent branchlets and coriaceous, oblong to lanceolate leaves, 7.5-10 cm long x 3-4 cm wide. Flowers red, terminal, sessile, 6-7 cm diameter, 6-7 petals, stamens 2 cm long; ovaries 3-locular.  Seed unknown.  Distribution: Sichuan Province, China.

Subgenus Camellia: Section Camellia; Subsection Reticulata; Series Reticulatae. Shrub, 1-2 m tall. Flowers terminal, sessile, red; 3-3.5 cm across with 2-2.5 long stamens, petals 7-8. Leaves coriaceous, elliptic, 6-10 cm long x 3-4 cm wide. Distribution: Yunnan Province, China.

Subgenus Thea; Section Brachyandra. Shrub to 4 m tall. Flowers very small, about 7 mm across, 6 petals, yellow. Leaves oblong, 10-22 cm long x 3-6.5 cm wide. Distribution:  Hainan Province, China.

Camellia anlungensis var. anlungensis Chang (1990).
Subgenus Camellia; Section Tuberculata.  Shrub or small tree. Flowers terminal, not seen. Leaves coriaceous, obovate, 7-14 cm long x 3.5-5.5 cm wide. Distribution:  Guizhou Province, China.
Synonyms:  C.obovatifolia Chang; C.leyeensis Chang et Zheng.

Subgenus Camellia; Section Camellia; Subsection Lucidissima. A tree, 2-6 m tall with smooth branches. Flowers subterminal and axillary, red, 5-7 cm across, with 7 broad obcordate petals; stamens and pistil 2.5 cm high. Leaves coriaceous, oblong, 8-14 cm long x 3-6 cm wide, glossy green, apices abrupt caudate-acuminate, margins serrate, petioles 8-10 mm long. Distribution:  Hunan Province, China.

Subgenus Thea; Section Thea; Series Sinensis.   A small tree, 2-5 m tall with downey branchlets and oblong, coriaceous leaves, 10-15 cm long x 4-7 cm wide and caudate apices. Flowers white, in terminal or leaf axils, 4-6 cm diameter, 7-11 petals.  Seed capsule 3-4 cm diameter.  Distribution:  Yunnan Province, China.  Has been merged with and become a synonym for C.sinensis var. sinensis Kuntz, 1887.

Camellia assimiloides Sealy (1949).
Subgenus Metacamellia; Section Eriandra. Shrub to 4 m tall. Flowers, white, about 2 cm across, with 8 petals. Similar to C.caudata. Leaves elliptic to oblong-elliptic, apices caudate, 5-7 cm long x 1.5-2 cm wide, thinly leathery. Distribution:  Guangdong and Hunan Provinces, China.

Camellia assimilis Champ. ex Benth. (1891).
Subgenus Metacamellia; Section Eriandria. Shrub to 2.5 m tall. Flower, 3.0 cm across, white, 7 petals. Leaves similar to C. caudata, elliptic, apices caudate, 4-8 cm long x 1.2-2.4 cm wide. Distribution:  Hong Kong, Guangxi Province, China and the islands along the Guangdong and Guangxi coast.

Merged and reduced to a synonym for C.crassicolumna, Chang, 1981.

Camellia aurea Chang (1979).
Subgenus Thea; Section Chrysantha; Series Flavae. Small shrub. Flower solitary, axillary, golden yellow, 3.5 cm across, with 9 petals. Leaves coriaceous, oblong, 10-15 cm long x 3.5-5 cm wide. Synonym: Camellia quinqueloculosa. Distribution:  Vietnam.

Leaves coriaceous, oblong, 7-13 cm long x 1.8-3.6 cm wide, apices acuminate to caudate-acuminate with 1-1.5 cm cauda. Flowers red, solitary, terminal or axillary, 2.8-4 cm in diameter; petals 6-7, obovate; stamens 4 cm long, style 2-3 cm long. Seed capsule, woody, 2.5-6.5 cm in diameter. Flowers red, 3.5-4.5 cm in diameter, solitary, terminal, subsessile, petals 5-6; stamens tubular, 1.3 cm long. Seed capsule red, 4-6 cm in diameter. Distribution:  Sichuan Province.

Camellia bolovanensis (Gagnep.) Chang et Ye  (1993).
Subgenus Camellia; Section Furfuracea.  Differs from C.furfuracea in having larger and slenderer leaves and larger seed capsules with thicker valve walls.  Flowers white with 7-8 petals.  Distribution:  Vietnam.

Subgenus Camellia; Section Camellia; Sub-section Reticulata; Series Reticulatae. Small tree 2-4 m tall. Flowers red, 3 cm across with 10 petals. Leaves thickly coriaceous, lanceolate, apices caudate, 6-9 cm long x 2-2.5 cm wide. Distribution:  Yunnan and Sichuan Provinces, China.

Sub-genus Thea; Section Brachyandra. Shrub 2 m tall. Flowers 1 or 2 in terminals and leaf axils, small size, white with 7-8 petals and very short stamens. Leaves coriaceous, long-oblong, 14-20 cm long x 5.5-6.5 cm wide. Distribution;  Hainan Province, China.

A shrub with branchlets at first pubescent, becoming glabrous and ovate-elliptical leaves, glossy, dark green, 6-9.5 cm long x 3-5 cm wide. Flowers reddish, axillary, sessile, 5-6 cm diameter, 6-7 obovate petals; stamens 2.5 cm long, glabrous.  Seed capsule subglobose, 2 cm diameter, opening to 3 valves with 2-3 mm thick walls.  Distribution:  Sichuan Province, China.

Subgenus Camellia; Section Paracamellia. A shrub 1.5-5 m tall. Flowers solitary, terminal and axillary, red or pink, 3.5 cm across with 5 petals. Similar to C. sasanqua. Leaves coriaceous, elliptic or ovate-elliptic, 3-5.5 cm long x 1.5-2.5 cm wide. Distribution: Guangxi Province, China.

Subgenus Camellia; Section Paracamellia. Slender tree, 5-8 m tall. Flowers solitary, terminal and axillary. 2.5 cm across, white, with 5 petals. Leaves elliptic, 3-4.8 cm long x 1.2-1.9 cm wide. Distribution: through Taiwan and Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi, Anhui and Jiangxi Provinces, China.

Subgenus Metacamellia, Section Theopsis; Series Cuspidatae. Shrub 1.5-3 m tall. Flowers terminal or axillary, white, very small, 10 mm across, with 5 petals. Similar to C. rosthorniana. Leaves coriaceous, ovate to elliptic, 2-3 cm long x 1-1.6 cm wide. Distribution: Sichuan and Hubei Provinces, China.
