However, particular acknowledgement must be made to the Longwood Foundation, without whose initial, generous funding this project would never have eventuated. Thanks are also due to the L.H. Bailey Hortorium for their work in administering the Longwood grant, and making available their extensive library resourses. This encompasses the dedicated work of Dr Ralph Philbrick, who spent six years investigating the worlds Camellias, and in locating, extracting, checking and filing an enormous amount of data from early camellia literature. In this he was closely associated with Charles Puddle of the United Kingdom, Professor E.G. Waterhouse of Australia and Mr Albert Fendig of the United States of America. I also wish to acknowledge, with particular gratitude, the support and assistance given to me personally by Dr Antonio Sevesi and Stelvio Coggiatti of Italy, Yoshiaki Andoh and Shinji Shinoda of Japan, Robert Gimson of Spain and Ivan J, Mitchell of Florida USA. I am deeply grateful to Charles Puddle, without whose continuing support, advise, supply of information and checking of the manuscript, completion of this Register would not have been possible.
Nevertheless, responsibility for the information contained in this Register, including any errors or omissions, remain entirely with the compiler.
Thomas J. Savige, International Registrar, International Camellia Society.
